HSE Job Vacancy: Chief Medical Adviser

The post

Reporting to the Director of Corporate Science, Engineering & Analysis the Chief Medical Adviser provides a strategic medical, occupational and public health perspective to HSE’s work to improve the health of workers, and to minimise the risks to health from work activities. The post holder also advises the HSE Board, HSE's policy functions, field operational, science, technology and communications functions in order to bring a strategic medical perspective at that senior level.

Providing line management for HSEs Corporate Medical Unit (CMU) and, together with the Chief Medical Officer of the Health and Safety Laboratory (HSL), professional leadership to the medical function in HSE (including the health scientists associated with it) leading to a coherent, consistent and focused contribution from CMU and HSL to HSE’s activities on work-related health.

The Chief Medical Adviser is a member of the Corporate Science, Engineering and Analysis Directorate Management Board, supports the Director in the leadership of the Directorate, chairs the Specialist Career Review Group for Human Science disciplines across HSE, sits on various internal and external groups, and has a personal role in contributing to the collective leadership and management of HSE's business.

Salary

Under HSE’s current pay arrangements, subject to an effective level of performance, staff progress annually towards the maximum of their pay scale. The maximum of the pay range for this post is currently £117,800. Terms of appointment will be negotiated with the successful candidate and will depend upon the appointee’s qualifications and experience. It is expected that the starting salary will be up to £90k.

This is a full time permanent post, however we are willing to consider applicants on a part time basis, or for example where this role would be combined with a continuing role as a practising occupational health physician. The details of any part time arrangement would be subject to negotiation at a later stage in the process.

Location

The role is based in Bootle, Merseyside and involves some occasional travel to other locations across Great Britain
