Stourbridge engineering company fined for thumb amputation

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) reports that M I Engineering Company Ltd. was prosecuted for an incident at its factory in Bromley Street, Lye, which occurred on 30 June 2010. The thumb on an engineer's right hand was crushed by a falling steel plate and had to be amputated.

The company pleaded guilty to breaching Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and was fined £7,500 and ordered to pay £3,321 costs.
