Construction company fined for lift shaft fall

Brighton Construction Ltd pleaded guilty to breaching Regulation 22(1) of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007 at court today (3 March). It was fined a total of £25,000 and ordered to pay costs of £15,000.

David Homewood, 53, from Eastbourne, was delivering a kitchen unit to a new block of flats in Brighton, when the incident happened on 3 November 2009. Homewood fell 6 metres down an unguarded lift shaft.
