Construction company fined for head injury which caused blindness

Contractors Balsham (Buildings) Ltd, Cambridge admitted breaching Section 3(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and Regulation 4(1) of the Work at Height Regulations 2005 for which it was fined £7,000 plus £8,832 costs.

The prosecution related to a work accident on 3 March 2010 when John Ingram, a self-employed builder and fitter fell as he attempted to climb a tower scaffold. He suffered extensive injuries which meant that he could not work for eight months - his head injury has caused blindness in one eye.
