UK nuclear regulator publishes five-year plan

The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) has published its Corporate Plan setting out its strategic intentions over the next five years and explaining how these will be resourced.

In the foreword of the plan, by Nick Baldwin (Chair of ONR) and Mike Weightman (HM Chief Inspector of Nuclear Installations and Head of ONR), it is clearly stated that "ONR...are committed to achieving our mission by ensuring the UK has a nuclear industry that has a culture of continuous improvement and sustained excellence in operations, and that it controls its hazards effectively. To do this we will ensure compliance with relevant legislation and by influencing the nuclear industry create an excellent health, safety and security culture".

The plan gives the names and shows the photographs of the ONR: Board; Executive Management Team; Programme Directors and; Senior Management leads.

ONR's vision and mission are stated along with how it will assess the outcomes of its eight operational delivery programmes:

  • Operating Reactors
  • Decommissioning
  • Nuclear New Build
  • Sellafield
  • Commersial and Restoration Sites
  • Weapons
  • Naval Nuclear Propulsion
  • Civil Nuclear Security
