Forklift guidance

forklift_imageFollowing news of a man being killed in a forklift incident, it's worth pointing out that the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) provides valuable advice for anyone making use of forklift trucks in the workplace.

The HSE's free-to-download guidance 'Safety in working with lift trucks' states that there are about 8,000 lift truck accidents resulting in injury every year. Ten of these will result in a fatality.

The guidance goes on to explain what is required by the relevant legislation and steps that can be taken to ensure that work with forklifts is carried out as safely as reasonably practicable.

The related document 'Rider-operated lift trucks: Operator training' is the approved code of practice which looks at basic training, specific job training and familiarisation training for those learning to drive rider-operated lift trucks.
