Shell guilty over Norfolk gas plant blast

The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) reports that Shell has been prosecuted after it admitted responsibility for an explosion and fire that took place at the Bacton Gas Terminal in Norfolk in February 2008.

The charges, brought by the Environment Agency (EA) and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), included failing to carry out the necessary procedures to prevent major accidents and failing to ensure the safety and welfare of its employees.
